Welcome to My Little Homestead — my little corner of the internet where tradition, creativity, and simple living come together.
I’m Sienke, the person behind this blog filled with recipes, preserving tips, DIY projects, and small discoveries that make everyday life a little more beautiful.
It Started Early
The photo beside this text — that’s me! More than thirty years ago, you could already find me in the garden. As a little girl, I wandered between the vegetable beds in my grandfather’s garden, where I learned to look closely, smell, taste, and help wherever I could.

Every small detail fascinated me: the tiny seeds, the way a plant grows, and all the quirky shapes and colours that homegrown vegetables can have.
And after all these years, that feeling hasn’t faded one bit. Every spring I’m full of excitement when the first seeds sprout, and every harvest I’m once again amazed by the imperfect, slightly wonky fruits and vegetables — the ones with the most character. I hope that sense of wonder never leaves me.
And Also in the Kitchen
Just like in the garden, you could often find me in the kitchen. Stirring pots with my mum or grandmother, trying new things, and especially tasting everything. I loved learning, asking endless questions, and discovering how dishes were made so I could recreate them myself.
Now, I get to share those same flavours and stories with my own children. Because food is never just food — it’s memory, tradition, comfort, and curiosity all in one. It’s a journey into a new culture or a warm reminder of something familiar. All of that can happen right in your own kitchen.
How My Little Homestead Began
This blog started as a simple digital folder to share recipes with my sister and sister-in-law.
But very quickly, I realised that many more people were searching for exactly that:
authentic recipes, simple preserving tips, things you can make yourself, and the joy of living with the seasons.
And that’s how My Little Homestead grew into a place where I can share my passion with anyone who loves doing things by hand, appreciates craftsmanship, and enjoys the rhythm of nature.
My Mission
My goal is simple: to show that with small steps you can create a calmer, richer, and more fulfilling life.
Making things yourself
Knowing what goes into your food
Working with what you have
Enjoying the seasons
And most of all: being proud of what you can create
That feeling of simplicity, connection, and satisfaction — that’s what I hope to share here.
For You
Whether you’re making jam for the first time, looking for ways to store bread without wasting any, ready for a new DIY adventure, or simply want to daydream about a slower, simpler life:

Take your time, browse the recipes, discover something new — and most of all, make plenty with your own hands.
With love,
Sienke
